ConsultGeri.org: The Hartford Institute For Geriatric Nursing: HIGN

ConsultGeri.org is the evidence-based geriatric clinical nursing website of The Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, at the NYU College of Nursing. It features evidence-based geriatric protocol, for managing over 30 common geriatric syndromes and conditions, and 50 nationally recommended instruments for use with older adults. Also includes information on hospital competency practices for older adults.

The Commission for Certification in Geriatric Pharmacy: Clinical Practice Guidelines for Older Adults

Features many clinical practice guidelines that explore challenges and offer insights into best practices of care for older adults. Includes many general as well as disease-specific guidelines that have particular relevance for senior care.

American Society on Aging (ASA)

ASA is the largest organization of professionals in the field of aging. ASA’s resources, publications, and educational opportunities are geared to enhance the knowledge and skills of people working with older adults and their families.

Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS)

CMS is a Federal agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services. It is the comprehensive resource to answer questions regarding administration of the Medicare program.

National Institute on Aging (NIA)

NIA is one of the Institutes and Centers of the federal National Institutes of Health. It provides leadership in aging research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs relevant to aging and older people. It features A to Z health topics related to aging; funding and research information; and trending news in elder care.

National Diabetes Education Program

A federal resource that compiles a wide range of resources that can help older adults learn how to better manage their diabetes or take steps to prevent type 2 diabetes. Caregivers and health care professionals of older adults may also find helpful tools to enhance their understanding of issues that affect this population.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

AHRQ National Guideline Clearinghouse

A federal website that gives access to a free, comprehensive collection of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines searchable by keyword or browsed by topic or medical specialty.

National Center on Elder Abuse (NCEA)

This federal agency serves as a national resource center dedicated to the prevention of elder mistreatment. The NCEA disseminates elder abuse information to professionals and the public, and provides technical assistance and training to states and to community-based organizations. The website provides news and resources available on-line, identifies and provides information about promising practices and interventions; operates a listserve forum for professionals; and provides subject matter expertise on program development.

USC School of Gerontology Fall Prevention Center of Excellence

This website has extensive information on fall prevention through this center of excellence which was established to “provide leadership, create new knowledge, improve practice and develop sustainable fall prevention programs.”

Eldercare Locator

A federal, nationwide service that connects older Americans and their caregivers to trustworthy local support resources. It helps link those who need assistance with state and local agencies on aging, as well as community-based organizations that serve older adults and their caregivers. Areas covered include services such as meals, home care or transportation, caregiver needs training and much more.

Geriatric Mental Health Foundation

Established by the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry to raise awareness of psychiatric and mental health disorders affecting the elderly, eliminate the stigma of mental illness and treatment, promote healthy aging strategies, and increase access to quality mental health care for the elderly. The website contains a tremendous array of links and information for older adults, family members, and caregivers on a wide range of topics, such as alcohol/drug abuse/misuse, anxiety, and depression.

Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion: Quick Guide to Health Literacy and Older Adults

The Quick Guide to Health Literacy and Older Adults is for anyone working with older adults on health and aging issues. The guide provides background information on health literacy and strategies and suggestions for communicating with older adults. Links to many helpful resource materials are included. This guide builds on the information presented in the Quick Guide to Health Literacy, published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
